Nova Serrana foi representada por 15 equipes na etapa microrregional dos Jogos Escolares de Minas Gerais (JEMG) 2022, realizada em Arcos entre os dias 10 e 14 de maio.
Foram 224 alunos/atletas divididos em cinco modalidades (Basquete, Futsal, Handebol, Voleibol e Xadrez), nos módulos I e II (masculino e feminino). As equipes representaram as escolas municipais: José Belchior Preto, José Américo de Lacerda e Frei Ambrósio; Estaduais: Maria Zeli Diniz, Antônio Martins do Espírito Santo e Padre Lauro; Rede Privada: Instituto Educacional Saber (IES).
A participação das equipes na competição contou com o apoio da Prefeitura de Nova Serrana por meio da Secretaria Municipal de Esporte e Lazer; Educação e Cultura.
As equipes campeãs e os alunos do xadrez representam o município na etapa regional do JEMG que acontecerá no próximo mês em Pará de Minas.
