Pitangui conquistou 7 medalhas de ouro e uma de prata nos jogos escolares paralímpicos que foram realizados em Brasília na última semana e terminou na sexta-feira (12).
Os atletas Kássia Aparecida Pires de Souza, Matheus Henrique do Nascimento e João Guilherme Néri Alves, além das medalhas de ouro e prata, também conquistaram vagas na grande etapa nacional dos jogos escolares paralímpicos. “Todo esse movimento de inclusão começou com o professor Walter Júnior. Iniciou o trabalho com os meninos e com incentivo da prefeitura está conquistando espaços com os jovens atletas”, disse o governo municipal em nota.
A etapa nacional será realizada no mês de novembro em São Paulo. A estimativa é que a competição tenha, ao todo, 3 mil crianças com deficiência envolvidas nas provas das fases regionais e da nacional.
A etapa regional das Paralimpíadas Escolares 2022 teve 308 atletas inscritos de dez estados das regiões Norte e Centro-Oeste. Da região Sudeste, apenas Minas Gerais participou desta etapa.
