Durante 78 dias, mais de 853 mil crianças com idade entre 1 e 4 anos foram imunizadas contra a poliomielite em Minas, totalizando 81,64% do público estimado. A Campanha Nacional de Vacinação contra a Poliomielite foi iniciada em 8/8 e, por não atingir a meta preconizada pelo Ministério da Saúde, de 95%, foi prorrogada até a última segunda-feira (24).
No esforço de reduzir o risco de reintrodução do vírus selvagem da doença no Brasil e garantir a imunização contra a paralisia infantil de todo o público-alvo, a Secretaria de Estado de Saúde de Minas Gerais (SES-MG) tem reforçado as estratégias e acompanhamento junto aos municípios para aumentar as taxas de cobertura vacinal em todos os territórios.
Segundo a diretora de Vigilância de Agravos Transmissíveis da SES-MG, Marcela Lencine Ferraz, atualmente há um cenário de baixas coberturas para as vacinas que fazem parte do Calendário Nacional do Programa Nacional de Imunizações. Isso, associado ao registro de poliomielite em outros países, eleva o risco para uma possível reintrodução do vírus no Brasil. Desde 2015 a meta de 95% do público-alvo não é alcançada e a vacinação é a única forma de prevenção da poliomielite.
“A vacinação é importante. É a forma mais segura e eficaz de interromper a circulação de vírus e evitar a sobrecarga no sistema de saúde. Portanto é fundamental que pais e responsáveis estejam atentos ao calendário vacinal e respondam aos chamamentos feitos pelos serviços de saúde. A pólio é uma doença severa, que pode causar sequelas graves, como paralisia, e até levar à morte e a melhor forma de prevenção é a vacinação”, reforça.
Ainda de acordo com a diretora, a vacina contra a doença faz parte da rotina de vacinação e está disponível nas unidades básicas de saúde de todo o estado. “Apesar de a campanha ter sido encerrada, a vacina contra a poliomielite permanece disponível e gratuita nas Unidades de Saúde de todos os municípios e todas as crianças que fazem parte do grupo elegível devem se vacinar. O atual esquema vacinal contra a poliomielite é composto por três doses injetáveis no primeiro ano da criança, aplicadas aos 2, 4 e 6 meses de vida. O reforço deve ser administrado aos 15 meses de idade – com a primeira dose, e aos 4 anos – com a segunda dose. Para as duas doses de reforço, a administração do imunizante é por meio de duas gotas, exclusivamente pela via oral”, reforça.
