Estudo da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (Fiocruz), coordenado pela Fiocruz Amazônia e pelo Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz), mostra o ressurgimento recente do sorotipo 3 do vírus da dengue no Brasil, que há mais de 15 anos não causa epidemias no país, o que faz acender o sinal de alerta quanto ao risco de uma nova epidemia da doença causada por esse sorotipo viral.
A pesquisa apresenta a caracterização genética dos vírus referentes a quatro casos da infecção registrados este ano, três em Roraima, na Região Norte, e um no Paraná, no Sul do país. Segundo a Fiocruz, a circulação de um sorotipo há tanto tempo ausente preocupa especialistas.
O vírus da dengue tem quatro sorotipos. Segundo a Fiocruz, a infecção por um deles gera imunidade contra o mesmo sorotipo, mas é possível contrair dengue novamente se houver contato com um sorotipo diferente. O risco de uma epidemia com o retorno do sorotipo 3 ocorre pela baixa imunidade da população, uma vez que poucas pessoas contraíram esse vírus desde as últimas epidemias registradas no começo dos anos 2000. Existe ainda o perigo da dengue grave, que ocorre com mais frequência em pessoas que já tiveram a doença sendo infectadas novamente por outro sorotipo. (COM AGÊNCIA BRASIL)
