Nesta segunda (5), tiveram início os Jogos Escolares de Minas Gerais (Jemg), e Nova Serrana está sendo representada nas modalidades de basquete, futsal, handebol, vôlei e xadrez. São 19 municípios participando desta fase microrregional, que acontece em Oliveira.
Esta etapa é uma das classificatórias para a fase regional que acontecerá em Nova Serrana de 3 a 10 de julho. Os participantes que saírem campeões de Oliveira, juntamente com os vencedores das outras sete etapas microrregionais (Superintendências de Pará de Minas, Sete Lagoas, Conselheiro Lafaiete, Ouro Preto e Metropolitanas A, B e C), estarão em nosso município disputando a classificação para a fase estadual.
A Secretaria de Esporte e Lazer, em parceria com a Secretaria de Educação e Cultura, viabilizaram e organizaram toda a logística da viagem, além de estarem presentes em Oliveira dando todo apoio e suporte aos atletas e professores alojados para os jogos. A Prefeitura agradece pelo acolhimento realizado, através da Escola Estadual Desembargador Continentino.
As escolas de Nova Serrana que estão participando em Oliveira são: as escolas municipais Frei Ambrósio, José Belchior Preto e José Antônio de Lacerda; as escolas estaduais Padre Lauro e Antônio Martins do Espírito Santo, além ainda da instituição de ensino IES — Instituto Educacional Saber.
