Nesta sexta (15/9), às 15h30, será inaugurada a Escola Municipal Dona Maria de Lourdes Martins, no bairro Serra Dourada, em Nova Serrana.
A mais nova unidade de ensino da cidade já está em funcionamento, com mais de 170 alunos em tempo integral. A escola atende aos bairros Maria José do Amaral e prolongamento, Lugano, Vidage, Serra Dourada, Parque das Aves, Nossa Senhora do Carmo, além do bairro Serra Dourada onde está instalada.
No total a prefeitura investiu mais de R$5 milhões na execução da obra. “Essa é uma escola referência em Nova Serrana. A estrutura é de alto padrão e conta com o que mais de moderno uma escola pode ter, além de ser 100% acessível. Centenas de famílias serão beneficiadas com esta unidade,” explica a secretária de Educação, Neusa Lago.

Maria de Lourdes Martins “Maria do Jaime” nasceu no então Cercado de Pitangui – atual Nova Serrana – (11/9/1936) onde cresceu e se casou com Jaime Martins do Espirito Santo (vereador em Nova Serrana (1958/1962), vice-prefeito em Divinópolis (1973/1977) e deputado estadual entre (1983 a 1997)
Teve uma vida dedicada à família (cinco filhos), netos e bisnetos, além dos menos favorecidos por meio de ações sociais. Atuou na política ao lado de Jaime Martins “Jaimão”, sendo reconhecida em toda região Oeste de Minas. Foi a primeira mulher eleita vice-prefeita Divinópolis (2001/2004). Teve um papel importante na atuação parlamentar do filho Jaime Martins Filho “Jaiminho”, deputado federal (1995 a 2019).
