Um vídeo recebido por nossa redação mostra um felino, semelhante a uma jaguatirica, morto, às margens da rodovia municipal Carmem Duarte, no acesso ao Distrito de Boa Vista de Minas, em Nova Serrana.
O autor do vídeo não se identificou na gravação. Ele relata que um carro teria atropelado o felino, que no entendimento dele, por ser pequeno, se tratava de “filhote de onça”.
No entanto, em uma pesquisa rápida na internet, é possível observar que o animal se assemelha a um Leopardus pardalis, popularmente conhecido como jaguatirica. Como mamífero carnívoro, a jaguatirica, também conhecida como ocelote, é uma espécie pertencente à família dos felídeos, sendo um dos dez representantes do gênero Leopardus.
São reconhecidas dez subespécies, com o gato-maracajá, sendo a espécie mais próxima da jaguatirica.
