Estudantes do município de Nova Serrana alcançaram o pódio, conquistando medalhas na etapa estadual dos Jogos Escolares de Minas Gerais (Jemg). A competição foi promovida entre os dias 25 e 31 de julho em Uberaba-MG.
As equipes de xadrez e natação da Escola Estadual Antônio Martins do Espírito Santo e atletismo da Escola Municipal Américo Ferreira representaram o município. A fase estadual é a terceira e última etapa dos jogos no estado e vale vaga para a nacional: os Jogos Escolares Brasileiros (JEB’s).
A Escola Municipal Américo Ferreira competiu nas modalidades: Salto em altura, Salto em distância, Arremesso de peso, Lançamento de dardo, Corrida com barreiras e Corrida de 80 metros, sob orientação do professor Otoniel Marcos. Já a Escola Estadual Antônio Martins do Espírito Santo disputou os jogos em Xadrez e Natação, comandados pela professora Heloísa Correa. Veja os resultados:

Lançamento de dardo – Ana Luiza: 3º lugar na colocação geral
Corrida de 80 metros – João Pedro Alves: 3º lugar na colocação geral
Natação – Victor Christian:
4° colocado nado livre (Tempo 00:27:61)
4° colocado nado borboleta (Tempo 00:30:38)
Salto em altura – Eric Henrique: 7º lugar na colocação geral
Salto em distância – Thiago Moreira: 17º lugar na colocação geral
Corrida com barreira – Victor Gabriel: 11º lugar na colocação geral
Xadrez – Vitor Fidelis: 12° colocado
