    CAMPANHA NACIONAL DE VACINAÇÃO CONTRA A PARALISIA INFANTIL

    A partir da próxima segunda-feira, dia 27 de maio, terá início mais uma campanha de vacinação em Nova Serrana: contra a poliomielite, também conhecida como paralisia infantil.

     

    Essa vacina é direcionada às crianças menores de 5 anos de idade e serve para evitar casos de paralisia infantil, doença que acometeu muitas crianças na década de 70 no Brasil.

     

    A campanha será de 27 de maio a 14 de junho de 2024 e acontecerá em todas as unidades de saúde. Pais e mães devem procurar a unidade de saúde mais próxima, com documentos pessoais e cartão de vacinas. A ação é parte da campanha nacional de vacinação contra a poliomielite.

     

     A poliomielite e a vacina

     

    A poliomielite é uma doença grave, caracterizada por um quadro de paralisia flácida causada pelo poliovírus selvagem (PVS) tipo 1, 2 ou 3, que em geral acomete os membros inferiores.

     

    Essa estratégia de vacinação é fundamental para a redução do risco de reintrodução do poliovírus no Brasil, uma vez que a doença se encontra eliminada no País desde 1994. Desse modo, esforços devem ser empreendidos para a erradicação da doença, tais como facilitar o acesso às vacinas, reduzir os bolsões de não vacinados e aumentar as coberturas vacinais.

     

    Em março de 1989, o Brasil confirmava o último caso de poliomielite em território nacional, antes mesmo do último registro no continente americano. A conquista foi possível graças às ações de vacinação em larga escala, que conferiram aos brasileiros a certificação de erradicação da doença.
