A forte queda da inflação fez o Banco Central (BC) cortar os juros pela primeira vez em três anos. O Comitê de Política Monetária (Copom) reduziu a taxa Selic, juros básicos da economia, em 0,5 ponto percentual, para 13,25% ao ano. A decisão surpreendeu o mercado financeiro, que esperava um corte de 0,25 ponto.
Em comunicado, o Copom informou que a queda da inflação possibilitou a redução nos juros. “O comitê avalia que a melhora do quadro inflacionário, refletindo em parte os impactos defasados da política monetária, aliada à queda das expectativas de inflação para prazos mais longos, após decisão recente do Conselho Monetário Nacional sobre a meta para a inflação, permitiram acumular a confiança necessária para iniciar um ciclo gradual de flexibilização monetária”, destacou o texto.
O Copom também informou que os membros do colegiado preveem, por unanimidade, cortes de 0,5 ponto nas próximas reuniões. Segundo o comunicado, o órgão avalia que esse será o ritmo adequado para manter a política monetária contracionista (juros que desestimulam a economia) necessária para controlar a inflação.
