A farmacêutica Merck, responsável pelo desenvolvimento do medicamento ivermectina, informou em comunicado na quinta-feira (4), que não há dados que sustentem o uso do remédio contra a covid-19. A indicação da Ivermectina é defendida pelo presidente Jair Bolsonaro e a substância é recomendada também em um aplicativo desenvolvido pelo Ministério da Saúde com orientações de tratamento contra o novo coronavírus.
Em seu comunicado, a Merck, que deteve a patente da ivermectina até 1996, disse que não há base científica para um potencial efeito terapêutico contra a covid-19 em estudos pré-clínicos. A empresa acrescentou também que não há evidência significativa de eficácia clínica em pacientes com a doença. A farmacêutica ainda pontuou que há uma preocupante ausência de dados sobre segurança da substância nesse contexto na maior parte dos estudos.
“Não acreditamos que os dados disponíveis sustentem a segurança e a eficácia da ivermectina além das doses e dos grupos indicados nas informações de prescrição aprovadas por agências regulatórias”, declarou a Merck, que destacou que seus cientistas continuam a examinar cuidadosamente os achados de todos os estudos disponíveis.
A recomendação original de uso da ivermectina presente em bula é voltada para tratamento de infecções causadas por parasitas. No Brasil, ao longo da pandemia ganhou força a informação sem base científica de que o remédio seria eficaz contra a covid-19. Em agosto do ano passado, Bolsonaro anunciou que a Anvisa facilitaria o acesso ao remédio para uso contra a covid-19 ao não cobrar mais retenção de receita.
Mas em julho a Anvisa já havia se pronunciado, sustentando que não existiam estudos conclusivos sobre o uso do medicamento nesse contexto. “As indicações aprovadas para a ivermectina são aquelas constantes da bula do medicamento”, reforçou a agência de vigilância sanitária.
Em 20 janeiro deste ano, o Estadão mostrou que o aplicativo TrateCOV, lançado pelo Ministério da Saúde para orientar o enfrentamento da covid-19, recomenda o uso da ivermectina, além de outros medicamentos sem eficácia comprovada como cloroquina. O Ministério da Saúde afirma que o TrateCOV sugere o diagnóstico por meio de sistema de pontos que obedece “rigorosos critérios clínicos”. No dia seguinte, a plataforma foi retirada do ar.
