Desde 2019, o CPF passou a ser obrigatório para todos os dependentes dos contribuintes que precisem declarar o Imposto de Renda. Nos Correios, além da inscrição para quem não possui o documento, é possível fazer a regularização cadastral e a alteração de dados – como data de nascimento, número do título eleitoral, endereço, nome da mãe e a mudança de sexo – que era realizada somente em unidades da Receita Federal.
No último ano, foram realizadas pela rede de atendimento dos Correios 3,9 milhões de inscrições ao cadastro. Para esse serviço, o cidadão deve comparecer a uma agência dos Correios munido da documentação necessária e pagar o valor de R$ 7,00. O número do documento sai na hora.
O CPF é utilizado para identificar o cidadão na Receita Federal. Não é obrigatório portar o cartão, mas o número do cadastro é exigido em várias situações, principalmente em operações financeiras, como abertura de contas em bancos.
