ANGELA HARTNETT’S BEEF & VEAL MEATBALLS
Meatballs are super-quick to make for a weeknight supper and there are many ways to serve them (see tip).
The veal in these gives a lightness to the result, but you
can swap it out for all beef, or flavourful pork mince. This is a good way
to use up any day-old bread hanging around. The recipe is easy to double up on and freeze so
you have a meal for an emergency.

SERVES 4

4 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for the onion

1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, chopped

400g tin chopped tomatoes

200g white bread (day old, if possible)

whole milk (enough to soak the bread)

500g beef mince

250g English veal mince

2 tbsp finely grated parmesan, plus extra to serve

4 anchovies, finely chopped

2 tbsp chopped flat-leaf parsley

salt and freshly ground black pepper

350g dried spaghetti, to serve (optional; see tip)

1 First make a tomato sauce. In a saucepan, heat
a dash of olive oil over a medium heat, then add half the chopped
onion and half the garlic, then sauté for 10 minutes to soften. Add the tomatoes and when the liquid starts to bubble, reduce to a simmer and leave to cook, stirring occasionally (about 20 minutes, to create a
thick sauce), while you make the meatballs.

2 In a bowl, soak the bread in the milk until soft. In another bowl, mix the beef, veal, parmesan, anchovies,
half the parsley and the rest of the onions and garlic.
Then add the soaked bread, lightly squeezing any excess milk from it first.
Mix well and season with salt and pepper. Mould the mixture into 12-14 meatballs.

3 Put the 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat.
When hot, add the meatballs, turning (for about 5 minutes) to ensure they colour all over.
If necessary, cook in batches so they are not all squashed
together, setting each batch aside on a plate while you cook the remainder.

4 To finish, remove the meatballs from the pan and set aside.

Pour the tomato sauce into the frying pan over a medium heat.
Put the meatballs back into the pan for a further 4-5 minutes to cook through.

Sprinkle with the remaining parsley before serving.

TIP You can serve the meatballs as they come, or on top of spaghetti.
If you would prefer the latter, cook the
pasta according to the packet instructions until al dente.

Drain it in a colander, reserving a cupful of the cooking water to loosen the meatball
sauce if necessary, and then transfer it back to the pan and toss it with a
little olive oil and butter. Put the spaghetti
on a serving plate and top with the meatballs and
sauce. Finish with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of
parmesan.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying
an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas
Chairman’s Lounge, an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out
by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that he was ‘enjoying
free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that
Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought by
Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a
‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.
‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be a
little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s)
hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters
such as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations heavily show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

Mr Bandt was spotted in September flying business class from Melbourne to Canberra seated next to Senator Jacqui Lambie.

Albanese government ministers Tim Watts and Catherine King were on the same flight but
were with the masses in economy class.

It has been previously reported that Mr Bandt opts to
frequently fly business despite his party’s core policy
of cutting C02 emissions. 

Flying business class emits about three times as much carbon as economy class because the seats
take up more room and more of them are empty,
according to a World Bank study. 

Fellow Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather last year said he had
shunned a Chairman’s Lounge membership and refuses to travel business class. 

Earlier this year Mr Bandt’s flying habits led to controversy.

Mr Bandt’s flying habits have been a previous source of controversy after it was revealed he
frequently opts for business class and has even taken private jets to election events

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing tax payers with the $23,000 bill. 

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7
but he also boarded a $15,000 private plane along
the well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend his party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime Minister
Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he is alleged to have
received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge
authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist
Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where
they are battling to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane seat
of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to
Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie,
said Todd Philips’s new film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it
was ‘going to bomb’ while filming. 

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the worst film ever
made.

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh,
this was loved by incels. This was loved by the
wrong kinds of people. This sent the wrong kind of message.

He continued: ‘It has no plot. We would sit there, me and these other guys
were all dressed in these security outfits because
we’re working at the Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of them and we’d hear this crap and I’d go, ‘What the f*** is
this?’ And they’d go, ‘This is going to bomb, man.’ I go,
‘This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen.’

‘We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d go, ‘What is the plot?

Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her
in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable. That’s how
terrible it is.’

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel
took to social media after its release last month to
defend the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for the weekend’s
top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive as people are making it out to be.
I love that the film didn’t try to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the storytelling they presented.
It never deviated to be a film full of Easter eggs or
any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical
elements were a lot of fun.’

I purchased my 101 tablet late Saturday night and it came by the following Wednesday.

Good job on the shipping (FSG Trading). Plugged the unit in, charged ok and lit up right away.
The set up wizard did exactly what it needed to do. It picked
up my wireless internet connection and the neighbors as well.
Connected to the internet and updated the firmware with out any issues.
Downloaded the Appslib app and was able to get Flash and and host of other apps.
Battery seems to be just fine. It does wear out a little faster than I wanted but I am able to do what
I want with it. What do you expect for $250 bucks?
The casing is a bit on the cheaper side but I am not going
to be playing football with it anytime soon. Video plays slightly slower
than I was expecting but ok for now. The resolution on the screen looks good.

The angle of the screen can be kind of annoying but
you learn to live it after awhile. Also, there is
a great forum of Archos tablet owners (Google it) that goes over
everything you probably wanted to know about the tablet.
Overrall, good product for the money. You can’t beat it.

If you are trying to decide to go with a 7″ or 10″,
go with the 10″. You won’t regret it.

publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio. 

And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was written in his book,
The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how Qantas sold us out.

Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry,
Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book is ‘not a hit
job on Anthony Albanese’.

Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that
the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line to Alan Joyce’.

The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them
from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights
Mr Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips
to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu. 

But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot the
messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot. 

He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his employment history. 

‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister
said. 

But before the book even gets to the contents page there is
a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird,
who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott Morrison. 

‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the
first line of the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch. 

Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the
untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with public figures and leaders who struggle to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’
he said.

Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime
Minister should refer himself to the anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.

Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop
mansion while so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage or
rent, the latest blow to his credibility has led
to calls for him to resign.

Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though. 

‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get this far.
I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to
him, is what I’ve seen. 

‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the front row of the Australian Open Tennis. 

‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).

‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the
International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister
who I’ve ever seen do that.

‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’

In Australian politics it’s regular practise
for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if
their flight can be upgraded. 

The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he
had a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes,
you’ll get upgraded.

‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where
the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and
the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades
is the CEO. No other executive can do that.

‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these
upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’

Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to get up there. 

‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to go back.

‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but
they don’t get paid like CEOs …

‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane
on personal travel. 

‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia. I’m not
here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what this
book is about and it never was.’

But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had
with Aston mirrors the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds
up back on Mr Albanese. 

‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with
the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to
him, is what I’ve seen. 

‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the front row of the Australian Open Tennis. 

‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost
every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime
Minister (I saw there).

‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front
row of the International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime
Minister who I’ve ever seen do that.

‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the
book are) just another example of that.’

In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy,
then someone in their office phones the airline and asks
if their flight can be upgraded. 

The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had
a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and
if the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.

‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where
the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your
fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat
and the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades
is the CEO. No other executive can do that.

‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these
upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’

Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during
his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for
politicians to get up there. 

‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s
very hard to go back.

‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and
they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …

‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of
the plane on personal travel. 

‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

Smile 2 and Terrifier 3 are set for a horror box office showdown this weekend.

Terrifier 3 – made for just $2million – has become a
surprise hit, raking in $28.6million so far and knocking Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga
film Joker: Folie à Deux off the top of the US box office.

But the clown horror faces fierce competition from the sequel to 2022’s Smile – which became a smash hit making $217million against a $17million budget.

Smile 2 – starring Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage and Ray Nicholson – will drop

The original horror film starred Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgewick’s daughter,

The physician then begins to have her own haunting experiences, including incidents in which she faces people
with forced smiles. 

Rose quickly learns she must face her own troubling past before

CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening
night. 

The psychological musical thriller — which has been criticized as ‘bleak’
and ‘disappointing’ — officially released in theaters on Friday, October 4, but it only raked in $20 million at the domestic box office, per The Hollywood Reporter. 

Phoenix reprised his role as the Joker in the sequel, which
had earned him an Oscar for his portrayal in the 2019 film, while Gaga took on the role of Harleen Lee Quinzel (Harley Quinn). 

However, Joker: Folie À Deux has been given a D
rating on CinemaScore — the lowest score for a comic book movie.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million –
but the number has since drastically dropped. 

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters – and eventually landed a
little over $1 billion in the global box office. 

The first movie – which was also directed by Todd Phillips – had a budget
of between $55 and $70 million. However, the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around
$200 million. 

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival. 

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker (Arthur
Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for
Best Original Score. 

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last
month in September, where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.   

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score
of 31% and a critic score of 32%

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie
released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the
sequel, which features musical sequences. 

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this. what happened to the script?’ while
another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face
emoji. 

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a good choice.

and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a
sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although
Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with her. 

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie
proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character; Phillips,
Gaga and Phoenix seen in September in L.A.

moments of the film.

It had a lackluster $40 million debut at the box office in its first weekend, and has a low rating of 33 percent and 31 percent
on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘Undoing much of the goodwill from its predecessor, the sequel
convolutes what could have been a unique character study into a bloated encore that
goes out with a whimper,’ reads one review. 

Another critic wrote, ‘This movie is a disjointed mess and a

Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author dreams of – massive amounts of free publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio. 

And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was
written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of how
Qantas sold us out.

Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily Mail Australia his book
is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.

Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had
a direct line to Alan Joyce’.

The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr
Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights
Mr Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’
and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu. 

But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot the messenger and,
in turn, shot himself in the foot. 

He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his
employment history. 

‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’
the Prime Minister said. 

But before the book even gets to the contents
page there is a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate communications senior
adviser.

And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked
for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott Morrison. 

‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of
the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night,
just before his book launch. 

Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the
untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many times with public figures and leaders who struggle
to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to
advice at this point’.

‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s blaming
me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).

‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you ask Qantas
for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you were the Transport Minister?
The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying to
avoid saying it.’

Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister
should refer himself to the anti-corruption commission over the
flight upgrades.

Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage or
rent, the latest blow to his credibility has led to calls for him to resign.

Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though. 

‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part
to get this far. I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the
book will learn that this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.

This book is about Qantas. 

‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both
sides of the aisle, Labor, Liberal, National, you
name it. They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.

‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.
I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what this book is about and it never was.’

But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese. 

‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with
the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time
and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen. 

‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at
the front row of the Australian Open Tennis. 

‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every
year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).

‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of
the International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister who I’ve ever seen do
that.

‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of that.’

In Australian politics it’s regular practise for
an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their flight
can be upgraded. 

The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very direct line
to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.

‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is
converted and you are guaranteed. You’re not going to
the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the only person at
Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades is the CEO.
No other executive can do that.

‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these
upgrades (for Anthony Albanese).’

Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during
his time as a travel journalist, and understands the
attraction for politicians to get up there. 

‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane, it’s very hard to go back.

‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars
and they fly in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …

‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel. 

‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

faced negative reviews from critics before its October 4 release and flopped at the
box office.

Tim, 39, who played a guard at Arkham Asylum in the movie, said Todd Philips’s new
film has ‘no plot’ and admitted he knew it
was ‘going to bomb’ while filming. 

Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Tim said: ‘It’s the
worst film ever made.

‘I think what happened, after the first Joker, there was a lot of talk like, ‘Oh, this was loved by incels.
This was loved by the wrong kinds of people.
This sent the wrong kind of message. Male rage! Nihilism!
All these think pieces.

Is there a plot? I don’t know, I think he falls in love with her in the prison?’ It’s not even hate-watchable.
That’s how terrible it is.’

Despite the negative reviews a number of fans of the sequel took
to social media after its release last month to defend the sequel
to Todd Phillips’ 2019 motion picture.

The film debuted to a paltry $40 million at the domestic box office, good enough for
the weekend’s top spot, but less than projections, and half that of its
predecessor.

Amid the early returns, a number of fans took up for the movie and its
cinematic depth, in breaking away from the cookie
cutter nature of sequels to introduce a musical
element not present in the first film, with Lady Gaga joining
the franchise.

‘Joker 2 was amazing,’ one user said, adding that it was ‘100% as divisive
as people are making it out to be. I love that the film didn’t try
to be a traditional sequel, and fully committed to the
storytelling they presented. It never deviated to be a film full
of Easter eggs or any other crowd pleasing aspects.’

Another user said, ‘I kinda loved Joker 2. I loved how it was structured
as a meta-exploration of the first film’s fandom and the musical elements were a lot of fun.’

but is headed for its tenth straight weekly loss amid concerns that new tariff threatened by President-elect Donald Trump
will heighten strains on the struggling Chinese economy.

Analysts expect the dollar to remain firm as Trump’s policies are
expected to drive up U.S. inflation, but they believe Beijing will prevent
the yuan from falling too much. “We anticipate some depreciation pressure in an expected strong dollar environment,” Lynn Song, Greater China chief
economist at ING, said in a note.

However, “we don’t expect an intentional large-scale depreciation and think the yuan will remain a low-volatility currency vis-à-vis most other Asian currencies.” The yuan was changing hands at 7.2549 per dollar
around midday, little moved from the previous close.

Although the currency has rebounded from a one-year low of 7.2996 hit on Tuesday, it is poised to
register its longest weekly losing streak since 2018.
The dollar index fell to one-week low overnight and “the USD’s consolidation should unwind the upside pressure building”
in the yuan, aided by ongoing attempts by China’s central bank to restrain its decline, said Alvin Tan, strategist at RBC Capital Markets.

Recent data has painted a mixed picture of China’s economic recovery, with manufacturing
activities improving, but property sales in many Chinese cities remaining weak.
China’s “economic landscape is unarguably dull, and the absence of excitement is perhaps the most salient feature,” said John Browning, managing director of BANDS Financial.

He doesn’t expect huge stimulus to be announced during next week’s Central Economic Work Conference, as “Beijing’s largesse will be reserved until after Trump is restored to the White House and the trade war formally begins.” Top policymakers will gather at the conference to agree on major economic goals for next year.

But the target for 2025 growth, one of the most closely-watched indicators globally for clues of Beijing’s near-term policy intentions, likely will not be officially announced until an annual parliament meeting in March.
During Trump’s first term as president, the yuan weakened about 5% against the dollar after
the initial round of U.S.
tariffs on Chinese goods in 2018, and fell another 1.5% a year later when trade tensions
escalated. Growth worries and expectations of further monetary easing by Beijing pushed China’s 10-year treasury
yields below 2% to record lows this week, worsening the yield disadvantage against the U.S., and exerting downward pressure
on the yuan. ING’s Song expects the onshore yuan to move within a
band between 7.00-7.40 per dollar, but could fall

Oct 19 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday
lowered its full-year forecast for shipment volumes of its heated tobacco
products, overshadowing an increase in annual profit expectations and stronger than predicted third-quarter
earnings.

The world’s top tobacco company by market value has sought to counter stricter regulations and falling demand for its traditional products in some
markets via a shift into smoking alternatives.

Its heated tobacco device IQOS has long been at the core of that plan, consuming the vast majority of
the more than $10 billion PMI says it has invested in its transition away from
cigarettes since 2008.

Heated tobacco shipment volumes would be lower
than previously expected over the full-year, PMI said, citing factors including limited growth in Russia
and Ukraine and “uncertainty related to inventory levels” in Europe amid incoming regulations on heated tobacco
flavours.

The European Union will later this month implement a ban on flavoured heated tobacco, part of a plan to
minimise tobacco use across the bloc by 2040.

PMI’s shares, which are down 9% this year, fell 2% in early trade, but recovered to stand 1% down at 1411 GMT.

Chief Financial Officer Emmanuel Babeau said PMI believed any volatility
due to the EU ban would be temporary.

We continue to hold the “view that this ban should not ultimately bring major disruption,” he said.

However, Gaurav Jain, a director of equity research
at Barclays, said it would be hard for PMI to know
the full impact of the ban until after it is implemented.

PMI continued to see significant growth in its oral nicotine products like ZYN, acquired
via the company’s purchase of Swedish Match last year.

ZYN saw a 65.7% increase in shipment volumes to the key U.S.
market alone in the quarter, with CEO Jacek Olczak saying the product
had “surpassed our expectations yet again”.

PMI’s quarterly performance was also helped by 18% growth
in heated tobacco shipment volumes and a 9% increase
in cigarette pricing.

It reported third-quarter adjusted profit of $1.67 per share, surpassing its own guidance range, and raised its annual profit guidance to between $6.05 and $6.08 per share.

The partner of the ex-CEO of the Abercrombie and Fitch
clothing line pleaded not guilty Tuesday in US federal
court to charges of sex trafficking and interstate prostitution and was released on $10 million bond.

Briton Matthew Smith, the ex-CEO Mike Jeffries and
their fixer James Jacobson allegedly used a “casting couch” ploy to groom
aspiring male models to attend sex parties at which victims
were plied with alcohol and drugs.

After his arrest in October in Florida with Jeffries, Smith was held in custody in New York.

Smith appeared in court Tuesday in Central Islip on Long Island, to the east of
New York City.

Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond put
up by Jeffries and his family, said a statement from the US attorney’s office for
the eastern district of New York.

An AFP photographer saw Smith leave the courthouse with
what appeared to be a large electronic surveillance bracelet attached to his ankle.

Another hearing is scheduled for December 10 for Smith,
Jeffries and Jacobson.

Jeffries, 80, was released on a $10 million bond in late October.

Jeffries, who served as CEO of Abercrombie and Fitch from 1992
to 2014, is accused of creating and maintaining a ring that recruited young
men to have sex with him and Smith.

Prosecutors allege that between December 2008 and March 2015 Jeffries, Smith and Jacobson used a combination of “force, fraud and coercion” to traffic men in a sprawling prostitution enterprise.

Charging documents detail 15 anonymous victims, but prosecutors suggest
the scale was probably much larger and have appealed for witnesses and victims to come forward.

Prosecutors say young men were taken to the New York home of Jeffries and Smith and to hotels in Britain, France,
Italy, Morocco to have sex with them.

Jeffries faces the prospect of life in prison if
convicted.

Jacobson also pleaded not guilty to the
same charges as the other defendants and was released on half a million dollars bond in October.
