O papa Francisco disse a uma pessoa transgênero que “Deus nos ama como somos”. Os comentários, divulgados pela mídia do Vaticano nesta terça (25), ocorreram em um podcast no qual Francisco ouviu e respondeu a mensagens de áudio de jovens antes de um festival da juventude católica do qual ele participará em Portugal na próxima semana.
Um dos jovens era Giona, italiana de 20 e poucos anos que disse estar “dividida pela dicotomia entre a fé [católica] e a identidade transgênero”.
Francisco respondeu que “o Senhor sempre caminha conosco… Mesmo que sejamos pecadores, Ele se aproxima para nos ajudar. O Senhor nos ama como somos, este é o amor louco de Deus”.
A Igreja Católica ensina que os membros da comunidade LGBT devem ser tratados com respeito, compaixão e sensibilidade, e seus direitos humanos respeitados. Se a Igreja pode e deve ser mais acolhedora com as pessoas LGBT, por exemplo, oferecendo bênçãos para uniões do mesmo sexo, é um tema particularmente delicado.
Francisco disse a famosa frase “quem sou eu para julgar” ao responder uma pergunta especifica sobre homossexuais, e classificou as leis que criminalizam membros da comunidade LGBT como um pecado e uma injustiça.
Ao mesmo tempo, o pontífice de 86 anos reafirmou que o casamento só pode ser entendido como uma união vitalícia entre um homem e uma mulher. Ele apoia as leis civis que dão direitos aos casais do mesmo sexo em questões burocráticas, como pensões e assistência médica.
Os conservadores contestam a atitude mais receptiva e menos crítica de Francisco em relação à comunidade LGBT, embora ele se refira consistentemente ao ensino católico tradicional que diz que a atração pelo mesmo sexo não é pecaminosa, mas os atos com mesmo sexo são.
