on clothing, homewares, food, and electronics.

The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through the cost of living crisis ravaging the country.

Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity
that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.

Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including Christmas decorations.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying an exclusive and discretionary perk
from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas
Chairman’s Lounge, an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out
by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s
most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National
stand-in host Steve Cannane that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a
company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about
what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that
Qantas illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of
the Covid pandemic in a case brought by Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it
a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a
Facebook post. ‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be a little purer on this and just
not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations
heavily show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

Albanese government ministers Tim Watts and Catherine King were on the same flight but were with the masses in economy class.

It has been previously reported that Mr Bandt opts to
frequently fly business despite his party’s core policy of cutting
C02 emissions. 

Flying business class emits about three times as much carbon as economy class because the seats take up more
room and more of them are empty, according to a World Bank study. 

Fellow Greens MP Max Chandler-Mather last year said he
had shunned a Chairman’s Lounge membership and refuses to travel business
class. 

Earlier this year Mr Bandt’s flying habits led to controversy.

Mr Bandt’s flying habits have been a previous source of controversy after it was
revealed he frequently opts for business class and has even taken private jets to election events

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing tax payers with
the $23,000 bill. 

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March
7 but he also boarded a $15,000 private plane along
the well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend his
party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked
if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one
he is alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe
Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling
to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have
retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the
ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane,
which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to
Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted. 

WHAT IS THE QANTAS CHAIRMAN’S CLUB?

The Qantas Chairman’s Lounge is an invitation-only club approved by the
company chairman, with the guest list a closely-guarded secret.

It has been dubbed ‘the most exclusive club in the country’ and comes with
a distinct black card.

Members include senior-ranking MPs including ministers, state premiers and the Prime Minister, leaders
of major unions and sporting groups, Qantas ambassadors, selected A-list celebrities,

Inside you will find expensive wood and brass furnishings,

Facilities may also include spas, showers and an assortment of books and magazines.

Members may bring in two guests at a time. 

Lounge attendants personally alert you when your flight is to board and your personal preferences are logged for each

Russell Crowe has argued that the rise of independent politicians are better representing the views of everyday Australians, unlike the two-party-dominated system in the United States. 

The Oscar-winning actor made the claim in response to podcast host Joe Rogan  complaining that Americans
were ‘completely trapped in the two-party system’.

‘We have the same sort of situation, but we have a very interesting thing that’s happening in Australia at the moment, which is the rise
of independents,’ Crowe countered.

‘The main parties have to deal with the fact those independents have to bring a non-party-line
series of points to the argument.

‘And it’s working well. It’s working for us. In that it’s making both of the main parties re-examine who they are and
what they stand for.

Rogan mused ‘we could use that here, for sure’,
highlighting how US politics is completely dominated by the Democrat and Republican parties.

There are other parties, including the Green, Libertarian, and Reform parties, but these receive vanishingly
few votes in comparison.

Independent candidates can also stand and have been known to
perform well on occasion.

Civil rights opponent George Wallace ran a third-party campaign in the 1968
US election which saw him garner 10 million votes
and take five southern states, while another disaffected

The nephew of a president, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was poised to get
on the ballot in dozens of states as an independent candidate before he pulled out and
backed Republican Donald Trump. 

He has now been appointed Health secretary in Trump’s incoming
cabinet. 

Trump himself had previously belonged to the Reform Party.

The former New York property developer had even considered running for
president in the 2000 election under the banner of that movement – formed by former third-party presidential candidate Ross Perot, who won 19 per cent of the
popular vote in 1992 but gained no electoral college votes.

Perot was the most popular minority party
candidate since former Republican president Teddy Roosevelt in 1912 ran as the Bull Moose
Party candidate – carrying six states including California and
coming second ahead of Republican William Taft.

Australia has seen a rise in recent years of nominally independent politicians who have taken votes away from
the two traditional parties of Labor and the Liberal-National coalition

This situation is helped by a strong Green party who now have 12 senators and
four members in the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, independent candidates who run on strong climate platforms but

Zali Steggall became the first Teal independent to achieve
huge success when she ousted former prime minister Tony Abbott in his seat in Sydney’s northern beaches
at the 2019 election.

In similar fashion, Monique Ryan won the traditionally Liberal
seat from former treasurer Josh Frydenberg at the 2022 election. 

She was one of seven Teals elected, swelling the lower house crossbench to 15, with this tally including the four Greens,
three conservative independents and progressive Andrew Wilkie.

Crowe’s three-hour conversation with Rogan, which
was first aired in August, has recently resurfaced in Teal social
media adverts.

They are being pushed by Melbourne philanthropist Simon Holmes à Court, who founded
Climate 200, which has given campaign funding to some Teal candidates.

Not all independents elected in 2022 were Teals, however.

the past three decades in federal parliament as the MP for the regional far north Queensland electorate of

to fire rifles and a desire to build a missile shield across northern Australia.

The House of Representatives crossbench grew to 16 in late 2022 when Andrew Gee quit the Nationals in protest at its opposition to the
Indigenous Voice to Parliament. 

The Greens and independents make up 11 per cent of the 151-member lower house – the highest proportion of non major party MPs since Federation in 1901.

The sequel is projected to only rake in less that
$50 million in the domestic box office during the entirety
of opening weekend, per The Hollywood Reporter

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared
their opinions over the sequel, which was also a musical

I feel like my time in the DC Universe was these two films.’ 

Ahead of the movie’s release, Lady Gaga also dropped
an accompanying album titled Harlequin on September 27.

The ‘bleak’ sequel, has also received a tepid reception from fans, with some
claiming Lady Gaga’s career could be at risk.

While the same director Todd Phillips was back in the hot seat, critics have said
the sequel is just a ‘repeat’ of the first hit but with an added musical
twist.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly
in the movie and claimed she was only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie À Deux didn’t live up to expectations,
others have dubbed the movie ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’ 

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but said it lacked any thrill. 

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker
is best remembered as one of the most subversive and original films of
the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’ work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up in the sequel, Phillips appeared
to have no idea what to do with her. 

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character; Phillips, Gaga and Phoenix seen in September in L.A.

and terrifying Dr Lecter from for the campy, kitschy.’ 

Along with Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan. 

Joker: Folie à Deux has faced additional backlash from fans as they have claimed that Gaga is running the risk
of losing her acting career.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying
an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas
Chairman’s Lounge, an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and services handed out by the airline
in what has been called ‘Australia’s most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve
Cannane that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds
of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about
what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas
illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case brought
by Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called
it a ‘devastating day for thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook
post. ‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be a
little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such
as this and argued that the party’s policies to tax
big corporations heavily show the perks were not impacting the
Greens.

Earlier this year Mr Bandt’s flying habits led to

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the
2022 federal election campaign, landing tax
payers with the $23,000 bill. 

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7 but he also boarded a
$15,000 private plane along the well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend
his party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s
Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he is alleged to have
received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored by
former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they are battling to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed
to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar
but suffered a 4.6 per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has
seen a massive 12.4 per cent swing to Labor with 64
per cent of votes counted.

Anthony Albanese has tried to claim his relationship with Alan Joyce was a strictly professional
one between a Prime Minister and a corporate
titan, as he battles claims the Qantas boss was
his ‘personal travel agent’ for free flights and upgrades.

However that characterization of the relationship was at odds with that made by Mr
Joyce, who said he was ‘good mates’ with Mr Albanese and had been ‘for
years’.

In the wake of the explosive claims that the Prime Minister had Mr Joyce
arrange free tickets and upgrades, Mr Albanese distanced himself from the
Qantas chief.

When asked about about their relationship on Sunday Mr Albanese implied
it was purely in a professional capacity, having been Transport
Minister and shadow transport spokesperson before becoming Prime
Minister. 

‘He (Joyce) was the CEO of the national airline …

I had the same relationship with him that I have with John Borghetti as the CEO of Virgin,’
Mr Albanese said.

That assessment was at odds with the many photos showing Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce apparently greatly enjoying each other’s company. 

Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce were pictured in high spirits on the red carpet at the Qantas 100th Gala Dinner in March
last year.

In photos from the event, Mr Joyce proudly walks
the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister and the other around Mr Albanese’s partner, Jodie Haydon.

Just five months later, in August, a smiling Mr Albanese attended
Qantas’s unveiling of it’s special ‘Yes 23′ emblazoned
airplanes for the Voice referendum.

Former Qantas CEO Alan Joyce jovially walked the red carpet with one arm around the prime minister
and the other around his partner, Jodie Haydon for a special anniversary event last year

Mr Joyce was seen touching Mr Albanese’s arm, with the PM bursting into
laughter.

Even when Scott Morrison was PM,  Mr Joyce enjoyed
an apparently close relationship with Mr Albanese as the pair stood close together
at the launch of the Qantas’ landmark Perth to London flight in March,
2018. 

During a Senate hearing in September 2023, Mr Joyce said he had been ‘friends for years’ with Mr Albanese.

Asked about why he gifted Mr Albanese’s son Nathan a membership to the prestigious and exclusive Chairman’s Lounge Mr Joyce refused to confirm or deny but talked up his relationship with the Prime
Minister.

‘I’ve been good mates with Albo for some time,’ Mr Joyce said. 

However, the then Qantas CEO refused to say whether he lobbied the Prime
Minister on the controversial decision to lock competitor Qatar Airways out of
domestic routes.

It has since emerged in a new book about Qantas, The Chairman’s
Lounge, by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston that Ms Haydon is also
a Chairman’s Lounge member.

Anthony Albanese fires up and launches a brutal personal attack on book author

Reports have emerged in a new book Mr Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy
from Qantas and he would liaise personally with the former airline boss for them. 

Aston also alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs to ask for special upgrades for
himself or his family.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were
‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu,
with some being for holidays.

Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that the London flights was for work purposes and all were ‘declared
in the appropriate way’.    

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has leapt on the accusations describing Mr
Albanese as being the ‘best friend’ of Mr Joyce. 

Mr Dutton told Sky News on Monday night it was ‘strange’ Mr Albanese had directly
contacted Mr Joyce to request upgrades while holding a
regulatory position in the transport sector.

‘If you’re the Transport Minister and you’re picking up the phone to one of the
most important stakeholders in the portfolio asking for a free upgrade, then again,
I think the Prime Minister would be able to answer those questions more effectively than anyone else because I’m not aware of
anyone else having done it,’ Mr Dutton said.

It has since emerged that Ms Haydon also has membership
of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge

The Prime Minister denied frequently asking Mr Joyce for upgrades on Tuesday at press conference in the NSW city of
Newcastle.

‘The only discussions that I can recall with Alan Joyce certainly
were not discussed through calls – we discussed the first flight from Australia to Dubai on the A380,
‘ he said.

‘I’ve declared everything in accordance with all of the
rules.’

Aston was asked on Monday night by ABC interviewer Sarah Ferguson about how confident he was that Mr
Albanese had made calls personally to Mr Joyce for upgrades.

‘I am very comfortable with my sourcing,’ Aston said.

Asked whether he thought Mr Albanese had been influenced by Mr Joyce’s lobbying to block UAE airline Qatar domestically Aston said it was ‘implausible’ to
think that the Prime Minister’s office had nothing to do
with the decision.

Mr Albanese’s son Nathan, 24, has reportedly also been granted access to the

‘It’s very hard to imagine a decision of any political sensitivity in the Albanese government that would not go through the Prime
Minister’s office,’ Aston replied.

He noted the opening up of the Australian domestic market Qatar had seemingly been sailing through with Transport Minister Catherine
King speaking warmly about the proposal until ‘everything changed’ to stop it dead in tracks. 

 Ms King repeatedly denied in parliament the decision to block Qatar was
due to Qantas lobbying her or any Labor colleagues.

Despite Mr Albanese claiming he declared every upgrade received from
Qantas the Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday that he failed to do
for his former wife Carmel Tebbutt when the two traveled together.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has  questioned the alleged personal requests Mr Albanese made to Mr Joyce 
while in his various parliamentary jobs

Even when Scott Morrison was prime minister, Mr Joyce appeared to
have a close relationship with Mr Albanese (the pair are
pictured at an event in 2019)

Sky New host Sharri Markson on Monday night
labeled Mr Joyce as ‘basically Albanese’s personal travel agent.’

‘This is all a question of integrity. Most Australians struggle to
afford even an economy airfare. They’d never be able to
afford the luxury of business class. It’s out of our reach,’ she said.

‘Can Albanese truly be impartial when it comes to making decisions about Qantas when he’s been getting tens of thousands of dollars worth of free upgrades to business class?
The revelations puts the decision he made as transport minister and prime minister under a cloud.

‘Aside from the integrity issues, this revelation is also politically
lethal. Albanese took care to curate a self-image of a housing commission boy who made it.
But now the perception is cementing of a long-term pollie enjoying the perks of public office.’

Another awkward paradox of Mr Albanese’s  apparent close relationship with Mr Joyce
is that the Labor leader in a trade unionist advocate while Qantas attempted to break the power of the Transport Workers Union by sacking
1700 staff during Covid. 

The sacking has since been ruled illegal by Federal Court in a
case brought by the union with Qantas facing possible hundreds of thousands in compensation payouts. 

The friendship however did find one perhaps unlikely defender in semi-retired 3AW radio star Neil Mitchell. 

‘Quick test: upgrade Albo is a bad look,’ Mitchell wrote on X.

‘But does anybody believe he was seriously compromised
by having Alan Joyce as a bestie? Time to rewrite rules governing politicians.’

All six senior members of the new federal anti-corruption watchdog have accepted Qantas Chairman’s Lounge
memberships as calls grow to refer Anthony Albanese over the
perks he took from the airline. 

Gift disclosure logs for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) leadership positions show commissioners are all part of Australia’s ‘most
exclusive club’ the Chairman’s Lounge membership extended
by invite only by the Qantas chair.

This has raised concerns over how impartial the
body would be when dealing with Qantas matters. 

If Mr Albanese has requested flight upgrades from former Qantas CEO
Alan Joyce directly, as reported in a new book, he may have
fallen foul of the strict Ministerial Code of Conduct which prohibits ministers from seeking ‘any kind of
benefit’ 

Commissioner Paul Brereton declared Chairman’s Lounge membership in 2023, as did the CEO Philip Reed and deputy commissioners Jaala
Hinchcliffe and Nicole Rose, Sky News reported on Wednesday. 

Deputy commissioners Ben Gauntlett and Kylie Kilgour declared their membership in February 2024, which
means it was after the NACC began operation in July 2023.

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three
deputy commissioners and CEO are members of the Chairman’s
lounge.

‘This does not impact the integrity of the Commission,’ the

The ad, placed by hotel group Accor that Qantas contracts to run the lounges, stated they were seeking ‘a highly motivated Food & Beverage Attendant to join our experienced
and professional Front of House team’.

‘This role is based within the Chairman’s Lounge, a small fine dining restaurant

mighty

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining
environment and the ability to work a seven- day rotating
roster.

The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy when booking Qantas
flight by personally requesting them from Mr Joyce are made in a new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review
columnist Joe Aston. 

Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary
jobs, which included Minister for Transport to ask for special upgrades that only the CEO could
dole out for himself or his family.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11
of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips
to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.

The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a ‘plus one’ Chairman’s
Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon did as well. 

Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.

and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed $51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two
weeks of release.

million domestically and $248.4 million globally after three days of release.

The hotly-anticipated sequel to the 2019 billion dollar Oscar-winning film was considered a surefire hit
for Warner Bros Pictures, yet ended up being slammed by critics and failed to

Joker: Folie À Deux has garnered the lowest CinemaScore in comic book movie history as the film bombed at the box office on opening night.

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150
[million] worldwide. Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the
film does not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of
Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips
due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and
Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC
two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio
but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of
a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged
in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price
point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per
cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared:
‘The one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t
listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re
going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA
premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said:

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film
at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back –

bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener,
Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan. 

Anyone who knows me has invariably been subject to a spiel about how much I love Claudia Winkleman. In part, it’s
because she’s so silly, and in part, it’s because I’m a huge fan of
everything she presents, from Strictly to The Traitors.

Adam Bandt said people ‘can make their own judgment’ about him enjoying an exclusive and discretionary perk from Qantas during a tense exchange with a journalist live on radio.

The Greens leader has been outed as a member of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge,
an invitation-only set of catered waiting areas and
services handed out by the airline in what has been called ‘Australia’s
most exclusive club’.

Mr Bandt was challenged on Monday by ABC Radio National stand-in host Steve Cannane that he was ‘enjoying free hospitality from a company that has illegally sacked hundreds of workers’.

Mr Bandt replied: ‘And I’ll declare that and people can make their own judgement about what they think about that.’

Cannane was referring to the Federal Court’s ruling that Qantas
illegally sacked 1,700 workers at the start of the Covid pandemic in a case
brought by Transport Workers Union. 

Commenting on the sacking in June of 2020, Mr Bandt called it a ‘devastating day for
thousands of Qantas workers & their families’ in a Facebook post.

‘We’re thinking of you,’ he wrote.

Cannane challenged Mr Bandt further saying: ‘You don’t think you should be a little purer on this and just not take their (Qantas’s) hospitality?’

Mr Bandt said he always made declarations about matters such as this
and argued that the party’s policies to tax big corporations heavily show the perks were not impacting the Greens.

it was revealed he frequently opts for business class
and has even taken private jets to election events

Mr Bandt used two private jets during the 2022 federal election campaign, landing tax payers with
the $23,000 bill. 

One flight was between Queensland regional centres Townsville and Rockhampton on March 7 but he also
boarded a $15,000 private plane along the
well-travelled Brisbane to Canberra route to attend his party’s election campaign launch.

Mr Bandt isn’t the only politician in the hot seat with Prime
Minister Anthony Albanese being asked if he has included both his son and partner as ‘plus one’ Chairman’s Club members.

He is also being asked about free flight upgrades including an international one he is
alleged to have received from Qantas in new book The Chairman’s Lounge authored
by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe Aston.

The Greens are licking their electoral wounds after the Queensland state poll, where they
are battling to hold onto their two seats after stating they aimed to triple their representation in parliament.

With 72 per cent of the vote counted they appear to have retained the Brisbane seat of Maiwar but suffered a 4.6
per cent swing to the ALP.

However, they remain behind South Brisbane, which has seen a massive 12.4 per cent
swing to Labor with 64 per cent of votes counted.

Hamas’ leader Yahya Sinwar could have given an order to execute all the hostages who remain in Gaza if he died, a top Israeli negotiator has claimed. 

Sinwar died on Wednesday after the IDF encountered him by chance,
sending a drone to kill the terror leader. 

Gershon Baskin, the Israeli negotiator who oversaw Sinwar’s 2011 release from
an Israeli prison, along with 1,026 Palestinian prisoners,
in exchange for the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shilat, said that his death was a ‘moment of either opportunity or a moment of doom.’

‘A moment of doom because there are rumours that Sinwar instructed people
holding hostages that, should he be killed, they should kill their hostages,’ he told the
Telegraph. 

At the time of Sinwar’s death, just over 100 hostages remained in Gaza, with 60 thought to still be alive. 

Those who remain alive are at risk of never being returned
to their families, according Haaretz, which reported on Sunday that top US officials, including
Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, have assessed there is a slim chance of a deal being brokered, given the tensions between Israel and Hamas.

Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said the six
were ‘cruelly murdered by Hamas just a short time before we got to
them.’

The six dead hostages were identified as Eden Yerushalmi, 24, Carmel
Gat, 39, Almog Sarusi, 26, Alex Lubnov, 26, Ori Danino, 25, and Hersh
Goldberg-Polin, 23.  

Five of those who were recovered had been attending
the Nova music festival when Hamas terrorists
began slaughtering festivalgoers, while taking others
hostage. Gat was at her family kibbutz when she was captured.

Joaquin Phoenix has revealed that he spoke with filmmaker Christopher Nolan about playing Joker which ultimately went

The 50-year-old actor – whose latest flick Joker:
Folie À Deux could be streamed now – got candid about potentially playing the
supervillain before he actually portrayed him.

Joaquin recently appeared on Rick Rubin’s Tetragrammaton podcast as he revealed that he spoke to the

the film’s LA premiere afterparty last month. 

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck,
mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city, it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide.

Not a billion. People showed up because that guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the film does not include a DC
Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker
sequel, while Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with
claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.
Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to
say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn and Safran – who took
control of DC two months before production began on Joker
2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the
studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he
told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to them, this is
kind of a Warner Bros. movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with
Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and
was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff: If
you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director Todd Phillips seen with Gaga and Phoenix at the LA premiere September 30

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the
decision to film in Los Angeles’.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the Venice Film Festival, but Phillips

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared
in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener,

the film, with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran notably absent from the film’s LA
premiere afterparty last month. 

A source said: ‘If the first movie was about some down-on-his-luck, mentally ill guy in a downtrodden city,
it makes maybe $150 [million] worldwide. Not a billion. People showed up because that
guy was Joker.’

In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence
of the film does not include a DC Studios logo.

A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel, while
Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of
Warner Bros. Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no
to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy
rather than Gunn and Safran – who took control of DC two months
before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter:
‘With all due respect to them, this is kind of a Warner Bros.
movie.’

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make
the sequel at a lower price point.’

The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20
per cent less.

A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The one thing about genre stuff:
If you don’t listen and pay attention to what the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail’; director

However, Phillips insisted on filming in LA with the budget remaining static.

A Warner spokesman told the publication the studio ‘supported the decision to
film in Los Angeles’.

A source directly involved with the film said: ‘No one could get through to Todd.
And the one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what
the fan expectations are, you’re going to fail.

Insiders also claim studio bosses did not want to premiere the film at the
Venice Film Festival, but Phillips pushed back – with a Warner spokesman saying the studio ‘fully supported the decision to
bring the film to Venice. 

Along with Gaga and Phoenix, other stars that had appeared in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Zazie Beatz and Steve Coogan.

All six senior members of the new federal anti-corruption watchdog have accepted Qantas Chairman’s Lounge memberships as calls grow to
refer Anthony Albanese over the perks he took from the airline. 

Gift disclosure logs for the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) leadership positions show commissioners are all part of Australia’s ‘most exclusive club’ the Chairman’s
Lounge membership extended by invite only by the Qantas chair.

This has raised concerns over how impartial the body would be when dealing
with Qantas matters. 

If Mr Albanese has requested flight upgrades from former Qantas
CEO Alan Joyce directly, as reported in a new book, he may
have fallen foul of the strict Ministerial Code of Conduct which
prohibits ministers from seeking ‘any kind of benefit’ 

Commissioner Paul Brereton declared Chairman’s Lounge membership in 2023, as did the CEO Philip Reed and deputy
commissioners Jaala Hinchcliffe and Nicole Rose, Sky News reported on Wednesday. 

Deputy commissioners Ben Gauntlett and Kylie Kilgour declared their membership in February 2024, which means it
was after the NACC began operation in July 2023.

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three deputy commissioners
and CEO are members of the Chairman’s lounge.

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining environment and the ability to work
a seven- day rotating roster.

The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy when booking Qantas flight by personally requesting them from Mr Joyce are made in a new book The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist
Joe Aston. 

Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs,
which included Minister for Transport to ask for special upgrades that only the CEO
could dole out for himself or his family.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to
Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.

The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a
‘plus one’ Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon did as well. 

Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared in the appropriate way’.

Weeks ago, the movie had been projected to bring in around $70 million – but the number has since drastically dropped. 

Joker (2019) notably opened with $96.2 million when the film first released in theaters
– and eventually landed a little over $1 billion in the
global box office. 

The first movie – which was also directed by
Todd Phillips – had a budget of between $55 and $70 million. However,
the budget increased for Folie À Deux to around $200 million. 

The 2019 movie garnered praise and positive reviews from both critics and audiences – and won the Golden Lion during the 76th Venice International Film Festival. 

Joaquin received an Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of the Joker
(Arthur Fleck) – and the film garnered an additional Academy Award for Best Original Score. 

The sequel also screened during the Venice International Film Festival last month in September,
where it earned a 12-minute standing ovation, per Deadline.   

On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently holds an audience score of 31% and a
critic score of 32%

However, audiences have since taken to X after the movie released in theaters on Friday – and shared their opinions on the
sequel, which features musical sequences. 

One fan penned, ‘Joaquin Phoenix don’t deserve this. what happened to the script?’ while
another added, ‘is it that bad,’ followed by a crying face emoji. 

‘Ironically I feel that a musical, if done well, could have been a
good choice. It’d show how much of an unreliable narrator
Fleck is,’ one typed. 

‘But with some original songs, that keep everything vague, not
just covers. Also when I heard of the ending I snorted fr.’ 

A social media user wrote, ‘Stop making sequels as musicals if
the original wasn’t a musical.’ 

‘Maybe he [Phillips] only had an hour long movie, and decided
to randomly add musical scenes to fill the runtime,’ one penned. 

‘Joker downfall really needs to be studied,’ another shared, along with a monkey staring out a window. 

One fan said, ‘the movie sucks. i had to walk out of the
cinema,’ while another penned, ‘After years of disagreement….*Joker 2 releases* Critics [shaking hands] Audience.’

Harlequin on September 27.

Most critics have said Todd failed to use Gaga correctly in the movie and claimed she was
only bought in for the musical aspect of it.

While the majority of critics say Joker: Folie À Deux didn’t live up to expectations,
others have dubbed the movie ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant.’ 

Daily Mail’s Brian Viner commended the move as ‘bold’ and ‘brilliant’ but
said it lacked any thrill. 

The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: ‘Today Joker is best remembered as one of the most
subversive and original films of the last decade, while its hugely anticipated sequel is just as
bleak and formally daring as its predecessor’.

Meanwhile, the Irish Times’ Donald Clarke gave the movie just two stars but credited Phillips’
work for making a sequel following the first movie’s $1billion success.

Financial Times critic Danny Leigh said although
Gaga worked hard to bump the ratings up in the
sequel, Phillips appeared to have no idea what to do with
her. 

Giving a three star rating, The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw claimed the movie
proves ‘claustrophobic’ and ‘repetitive.’

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter,
Phillips discussed whether he would be interested in making a third Joker film or a movie centered around Gaga’s character;

Smile 2 has received a 83-percent critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 83-percent

Anthony Albanese has tried to claim his relationship with Alan Joyce
was a strictly professional one between a Prime Minister and a corporate titan, as he battles claims the Qantas boss was his ‘personal travel agent’ for free flights and upgrades.

However that characterization of the relationship
was at odds with that made by Mr Joyce, who said he was ‘good mates’
with Mr Albanese and had been ‘for years’.

In the wake of the explosive claims that the Prime Minister
had Mr Joyce arrange free tickets and upgrades, Mr Albanese distanced
himself from the Qantas chief.

When asked about about their relationship on Sunday Mr Albanese implied it
was purely in a professional capacity, having been Transport Minister and shadow transport spokesperson before becoming Prime Minister. 

‘He (Joyce) was the CEO of the national airline … I had the same relationship with him that I have with John Borghetti
as the CEO of Virgin,’ Mr Albanese said.

That assessment was at odds with the many
photos showing Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce apparently greatly enjoying each other’s company. 

Mr Albanese and Mr Joyce were pictured in high spirits on the red carpet at
the Qantas 100th Gala Dinner in March last year.

In photos from the event, Mr Joyce proudly walks the red carpet with one
arm around the prime minister and the other around Mr Albanese’s partner, Jodie Haydon.

Just five months later, in August, a smiling Mr Albanese attended Qantas’s unveiling of it’s special ‘Yes 23′ emblazoned airplanes for the Voice referendum.

the launch of the Qantas’ landmark Perth to London flight in March,
2018. 

During a Senate hearing in September 2023, Mr Joyce said he had been ‘friends for years’ with Mr Albanese.

Asked about why he gifted Mr Albanese’s son Nathan a membership to
the prestigious and exclusive Chairman’s Lounge Mr Joyce refused to
confirm or deny but talked up his relationship with the Prime Minister.

‘I’ve been good mates with Albo for some time,
‘ Mr Joyce said. 

However, the then Qantas CEO refused to say whether he lobbied the
Prime Minister on the controversial decision to lock
competitor Qatar Airways out of domestic routes.

Reports have emerged in a new book Mr Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy from Qantas
and he would liaise personally with the former airline boss for them. 

Aston also alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs
to ask for special upgrades for himself or his family.

According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu,
with some being for holidays.

Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that the London flights was for work purposes and all were
‘declared in the appropriate way’.    

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has leapt on the accusations
describing Mr Albanese as being the ‘best friend’ of
Mr Joyce. 

Mr Dutton told Sky News on Monday night it was ‘strange’ Mr Albanese had directly contacted Mr
Joyce to request upgrades while holding a regulatory position in the transport sector.

‘If you’re the Transport Minister and you’re picking up
the phone to one of the most important stakeholders in the
portfolio asking for a free upgrade, then again, I think the Prime Minister would be able to answer those questions more effectively than anyone else because I’m
not aware of anyone else having done it,’ Mr Dutton said.

It has since emerged that Ms Haydon also has membership
of the Qantas Chairman’s Lounge

The Prime Minister denied frequently asking Mr Joyce for upgrades on Tuesday at press conference in the NSW city of Newcastle.

‘The only discussions that I can recall with Alan Joyce certainly were not
discussed through calls – we discussed the first flight from Australia to Dubai
on the A380,’ he said.

‘I’ve declared everything in accordance with all of the rules.’

Aston was asked on Monday night by ABC interviewer Sarah Ferguson about how confident he was that Mr Albanese had made calls personally to Mr Joyce for upgrades.

‘I am very comfortable with my sourcing,’ Aston said.

Asked whether he thought Mr Albanese had been influenced by Mr Joyce’s
lobbying to block UAE airline Qatar domestically Aston said it
was ‘implausible’ to think that the Prime Minister’s office had nothing
to do with the decision.

about the proposal until ‘everything changed’ to stop it dead in tracks. 

 Ms King repeatedly denied in parliament the decision to
block Qatar was due to Qantas lobbying her or any Labor colleagues.

Despite Mr Albanese claiming he declared every upgrade
received from Qantas the Australian Financial Review reported on Tuesday that he failed to do for his former wife Carmel
Tebbutt when the two traveled together.

‘Can Albanese truly be impartial when it comes to making decisions about

Albanese took care to curate a self-image of a housing

Another awkward paradox of Mr Albanese’s  apparent close relationship with Mr Joyce is that the
Labor leader in a trade unionist advocate while Qantas attempted to break the power of the Transport Workers Union by sacking
1700 staff during Covid. 

The sacking has since been ruled illegal by Federal Court in a case brought
by the union with Qantas facing possible hundreds of thousands in compensation payouts. 

The friendship however did find one perhaps unlikely
defender in semi-retired 3AW radio star Neil Mitchell. 

‘Quick test: upgrade Albo is a bad look,’
Mitchell wrote on X.

‘But does anybody believe he was seriously compromised by having
Alan Joyce as a bestie? Time to rewrite rules governing
politicians.’

The grisly film – made for about $2 million – stars Thornton as homicidal clown Art who brutally murders an array of

Terrifier 3 dethrones Joker: Folie À Deux as box office champ

‘This shows Hollywood that we need to start making movies that
take risks again.

The star said he had yet to see the panned Joker sequel, saying: ‘I was shocked too
as the first Joker film I loved, I’m curious to
see why people aren’t as crazy about the second one.’    

Terrifier 3, written and directed by Damien Leone,
is an un-rated blood fest, which has received a 78-percent rating from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.  Audiences have ‘certified’ it ‘hot’ and given it a healthy 90-percent on the popcornmeter.

The film earned $18.3 million at the box office according to The Numbers.   

Landing in third place was Joker: Folie à Deux. After winning the box office competition during its debut weekend could not overcome the bad reviews, enduring an 82-percent decline in ticket sales.

The movie collected only $7.055 million, in spite of being in more than four thousand theaters across the US.

A Warner Bros. spokesperson responded to the report, saying ‘Any estimates suggested by anonymous “insiders”
or “rival executives” are grossly wrong and continues a trend where rumor is reported as fact.’

‘The film continues to play in theatrical release, included with this week’s opening in China, and will continue to
earn revenue throughout its home viewing and ancillary run.’

So far, the musical about Batman’s nemesis has grossed
$51.5 million domestically and $165 million globally after two weeks of release.

is releasing a single titled Disease, set to be released Friday.

Diesase, the first of songs from her forthcoming
seventh album, was teased Tuesday on the Grammy-winning artist’s Instagram account, as she captioned the image: ‘DISEASE 10.25.’

In a teaser clip from the viewpoint of an approaching vehicle, the actress-singer,

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International (PMI) on Thursday signalled a slower than anticipated U.S.
roll out of its IQOS heated tobacco device, a
choice analysts said was positive for its competitors in the
short term.

The New York-listed Marlboro maker also said it aims for more than two thirds of
its net revenues to come from “smoke-free” products
by 2030, up from 50% in 2025, as it tries to transform its image from a
cigarette purveyor to a driver of the shift to healthier alternatives.

Investors have been closely watching IQOS’ entry
into the U.S., the world’s largest market for nicotine products, and had been expecting it from May 2024 next year.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that PMI is hiring lobbyists across a
host of key U.S. states ahead of the launch.

Chief Executive Jacek Olczak said IQOS would launch in four cities
in two unnamed U.S. states from 2024, but a national launch would only come after PMI receives approval to sell the latest
version, known as IQOS ILUMA.

The company was planning to apply for approval in October and
expected it from 2025, he continued.

“We need to warm up the tyres,” he said of the initial launch, which would help PMI fine
tune its approach.

A national roll-out of ILUMA would follow but in phases, he continued, adding
launching in 10 states in the first year would make sense.

Meaningful traction for PMI’s heated tobacco products in the U.S.

“now looks delayed until ILUMA,” Owen Bennett, equity analyst at Jefferies, said in a note,
adding this was a positive for PMI’s rivals.

Olczak also signalled that PMI’s push into non-nicotine products was no longer a priority.
It recently scrapped an ambition for $1 billion in net revenues to
come from sales of such products by 2025.

Instead, PMI will focus its resources on IQOS and nicotine pouch brand ZYN, Olczak said, adding it had been too optimistic around acceptance of big tobacco companies operating outside of nicotine.

PMI also announced updated medium-term targets including for revenue and earnings per share, and ambitious
volume targets for IQOS and ZYN.

ZYN and other oral nicotine products in the U.S. would help drive an expected $2 billion in revenues there in 2024, even before IQOS ILUMA,
executives said.
