O Secretário Especial da Fazenda do Ministério da Economia, Waldery Rodrigues, disse hoje (23) que o Censo Demográfico do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), que estava previsto para este ano, não será realizado em razão da falta de orçamento. “Não há previsão orçamentária para o Censo, portanto ele não se realizará em 2021. As consequências e gestão para um novo Censo serão comunicadas ao longo desse ano, em particular em decisões tomadas na Junta de Execução Orçamentária [formada por Casa Civil e Ministério da Economia]”, declarou o secretário.
Os recursos necessários para o Censo, que acontece, em geral, a cada dez anos, eram da ordem de R$ 2 bilhões. Durante a tramitação do projeto no Congresso Nacional, os parlamentares já haviam feito um corte de R$ 1,76 bilhão, agora, foi confirmada a retirada dos recursos. Segundo Waldery, novas decisões serão comunicadas oportunamente.
No início do mês, o IBGE já havia suspendido as provas do processo seletivo para recenseadores e agentes censitários que trabalhariam na pesquisa. Cerca de 17 mil agentes censitários e 182 mil recenseadores seriam contratados.
Os dados populacionais do Censo são utilizados para os repasses do Fundo de Participação dos Municípios (FPM) e para uma série de outras transferências da União para estados e municípios. A última contagem da população foi realizada no Censo Demográfico de 2010.
