Na tarde de quinta (9) na sede do 60º Batalhão de Polícia Militar em Nova Serrana, foi realizada a solenidade de transmissão do cargo de comandante da unidade da PMMG. O tenente-coronel Hebert Lanza Avelar passou ao tenente-coronel Marco Paulo de Oliveira Gontijo, o comando do batalhão. A cerimônia contou com a presença de autoridades civis e militares, representantes da sociedade civil, além de amigos e familiares dos comandantes, substituído e substituto. O batalhão, sediado em Nova Serrana, abrange também as cidades de Pitangui, Perdigão, Araújos, Leandro Ferreira e Conceição do Pará.
Números históricos e homenagem
O ex-comandante, tenente-coronel Herbert, assumiu o 60º Batalhão em janeiro de 2022 e, à frente da tropa, conseguiu resultados históricos em Nova Serrana. Os principais índices criminais violentos tiveram uma redução aqui e na região. Em comparação com 2021, os roubos reduziram 15%, os estupros tiveram um declínio de 55%, os crimes na área rural, 15% e a violência doméstica caiu em 8%. Os números absolutos são inferiores aos registrados no ano de 2012, há 10 anos, quando a cidade tinha pouco mais de 80 mil habitantes. Numa escalada violenta nos anos seguintes, Nova Serrana chegou a ser a 4ª cidade mais violenta em Minas (entre 2015 e 2016), perdendo apenas para Belo Horizonte, Betim e Contagem. Promovido ao cargo de coronel, Herbert Lanza foi para o quadro de reserva da PMMG.
Novo Comandante
O novo comandante, tenente-coronel Marco Paulo, conta com mais de 26 anos de experiência na corporação e era oficial subcomandante do 23º Batalhão, sediado em Divinópolis.
